  • 03/09/10--07:00: Getting Paid for Reviewing Grant Proposals - Mar 09,2010 (chan 2967005)
  • Agencies need Peer Reviewers to help determine who gets grants for their projects. These peer reviewers are essential to the grant making process. All donors have their own grant review process. Foundations and other non-profits must post their grant distribution process in their 990 tax returns. “Grant proposals submitted to the federal government are generally reviewed first by a peer review panel. This panel consists of people in related fields of interest who are instructed to offer an unbiased assessment of the grant proposals that have been submitted. The members of this panel will assign ratings according to the criteria that they are given. There are many different areas of interest. When I first started, we were required to travel to Washington, DC. Today you will probably be able to perform your review services online. The rate of pay varies according to the different agencies. What you will appreciate besides the pay is the opportunity to learn just how the granting process works. It will also help to develop your skills as a grant proposal writer. “ ( Excerpt from the book My Grant Writing Secrets, by Dr. Margaret Jamal) Some of the frequently asked questions that we hope to cover include the following: What type of people should become grant proposal reviewers? How much money can a reviewer make for contracting their services? What type of experience does someone need in order to become a grant reviewer? How can people participate in local grant review processes as well? This program is designed to offer tangible solutions to the critical issues that are challenging the quality of life in various populations. We invite forward thinkers, entrepreneurs and solutions oriented talkers to engage in meaningful problem solving. These episodes may be forwarded to government officials (and other concerned entities) to let them review solutions oriented discussions.
